The blaze in the Seaview Motel and The Odd Plate restaurant in Kingscote broke out on Monday night, with most of the damage confined to the restaurant area.

The eatery closed for a winter break last month and was due to open again in September.

The Country Fire Service said motel patrons were taken to safety and no one was hurt.

In a Facebook post, the operators of the restaurant said they were still assessing the extent of the damage and determining what happened.

“Everyone is safe and there was no one in the building at the time,” they said.

“Our hearts are absolutely shattered and we are still trying to process what is happening.”

In June, the Shy Wren restaurant at Penneshaw on KI was gutted by a million-dollar fire.
