Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau has kept a lid on the Reds’ impressive performance after sweeping aside Perth Glory 2-0 at Coopers Stadium on Sunday.

United continued its unbeaten run, and in the process ended Perth’s perfect start to the season, with goals to Sergio Cirio in the 18th minute and substitute Awer Mabil 20 minutes from time.

Adelaide join Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC as the league’s unbeaten sides.

The trio banked round three victories – as did Wellington Phoenix, now perched in fourth after a 4-1 Sunday feast of Newcastle Jets.

Gombau said he was delighted with the Reds’ display but wouldn’t answer claims it was one of United’s best performances during his reign at the club.

“I don’t know, I would need to see (it) again,” Gombau said.

“But we played well, I’m very happy with how we played.

“But hey, it’s three games only, there are 24 more.”

The next clash is against Melbourne City at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Friday night in what is looming as City’s Spanish marquee signing David Villa’s final game in the A-League.

The match will also be United’s fourth in 15 days following last week’s Adelaide Oval blockbuster against Melbourne Victory and Tuesday’s 120-minute extra time win over Sydney FC in the FFA Cup quarter finals.

But after cruising past Glory on Sunday and showing little sign of fatigue, Gombau expects his side will be fully fit and ready to face City despite the short turnaround.

“In the end we played on Tuesday and then we played today (Sunday) and it’s five days,” Gombau said.

“Now it (Melbourne City) is five days also.

“In the end I’m not worried because it’s time enough to arrive in good condition.”

The Reds are expected to welcome back in-form striker Bruce Djite who missed the Perth clash as a precaution after he experienced calf trouble during the week.

Djite who scored twice in the FFA Cup win against Sydney should slot straight back into the starting XI.

“I think yeah (he’ll be ready to play),” Gombau said.

“His calf was very tight – he feel something there.

“It’s not an injury, but if he played today (Sunday) it’s risky and after you could lose him for three or four weeks.”
