Boak hurt his right hand when fending off a teammate during a training drill last Friday.

A club spokesman said the medical team don’t believe the injury is serious but the Power captain had the hand bandaged today.

The 29-year-old Boak hasn’t been sent for scans and his new teammate Jack Watts says the skipper has one main concern.

“He has said the worst thing is he can’t play golf for a couple of weeks,” Watts told reporters.

“I would say he’d be fine. He was out there today doing a bit and I would imagine he will back in (full training) as much as he possibly can.”

Watts has been training with Port for three weeks since his departure from Melbourne and hoped to settle in the Power’s forward line after playing varied roles with the Demons.

“I would love to really lock down that spot up forward,” he said.

“But at the same time if the team needs me to go up the ground a bit or play on a wing or play as a tall mid, I’m certainly up for anything.

“Ideally I will kick a lot of goals and put a lot of ball down Charlie’s (Dixon) throat and help in that aspect.”

Watts is among a host of seasoned recruits to join Port, along with Tom Rockliff (Brisbane), Steven Motlop (Geelong), Lindsay Thomas (North Melbourne) and Jack Trengove (Melbourne).

“Having a pretty large new group coming in has made it a little bit easier,” Watts said.

“We’re all in the same boat, we’re all coming across from different clubs.

“But I think the main thing that has made it so easy is the guys – the teammates, coaches – have just made us feel so welcome and really settle early.

“And now we can focus on the season ahead and really try and gel as a group before we get into games.”
