Rozee, who was also named in the AFL All-Australian team for the first time this year, polled 132 votes to deny former captain Travis Boak a third victory.

Boak finished 30 votes behind Rozee with Dan Houston third, a further two votes adrift and 2021 Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines fourth.

The night was delayed until December to allow it to be held in conjunction with the club’s first AFLW awards night which saw Hannah Ewings beat captain and former Crows star Erin Phillips by five votes.

Eighteen-year-old Ewings won the AFLW Season Seven Rising Star award in Port’s first season in the competition.

Rozee, who was born and raised in Port Augusta, said he was grateful to be able to play AFL football in his home state.

“There’s only two clubs in South Australia so the odds were pretty slim but as I’ve grown as a person I’ve been fortunate to be able to stay around my family and friends,” Rozee said.

After battling a foot problem in 2021, the 22-year-old capitalised on his injury free run to play all 22 games this season and blossomed after being shifted into a midfield role from the forward line.

Rozee, who is contracted at Alberton until the end of the 2024 season, was selected with the Power’s pick five at the 2018 draft in a bumper haul that included Victorians Xavier Duursma and Zak Butters.
