Young, 29, polled 23 votes to pip Norwood’s Nik Rokahr by one vote.

The Eagles’ Riley Knight and Sturt defender Casey Voss tied for third, a further vote back.

Young played 100 AFL games including 76 for Port Adelaide and 24 for Gold Coast before returning to the Roosters where he first played in 2011 after being selected in the SANFL’s “mini-draft”.

He is the 18th North Adelaide player to win the SANFL’s highest individual honour.

Earlier, former Power midfielder Kane Cornes was inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

He was joined by former Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich, 1930s Norwood goal sneak Bruce Schultz and boundary umpire Darren Wilson.
