Adelaide Crows midfielder Patrick Dangerfield is almost certain to miss Sunday’s clash with Geelong after having scans on his injured right shoulder.

Dangerfield sustained a sprained AC joint in the first quarter of Adelaide’s loss to Collingwood on Friday night.

After receiving treatment, he returned to play out the game, but looked in clear discomfort.

Adelaide officials said yesterday Dangerfield had scans on his injured shoulder on Monday afternoon and will now consult a shoulder specialist to source the best rehabilitation program available.

“It’s highly unlikely he’ll be available to play against Geelong this weekend,” the club told fans on its website.

Dangerfield could miss up to a month of football depending on how well he responded to treatment, the club said.

The in-form midfielder hasn’t missed a game since Round 19, 2010, playing the last 65 in succession.

“It’s disappointing for Patrick. He’s been very durable and rarely missed a game over the past few seasons,” club spokesman Phil Harper said.

“As a club, we are determined to get the best treatment to ensure he is back playing as soon as possible.”

Adelaide plays Geelong on Sunday afternoon mindful that the Crows won by 50 points the last time they met at AAMI Stadium (round seven last year) and with several Cats stars missing this time around.

Corey Enright and Mathew Stokes face fitness tests for foot and groin injuries ahead of Sunday’s match while Nathan Vardy and Joel Corey will be assessed after suffering concussions.

The Cats will be without star midfielder Steve Johnson who’s accepted a one-game ban for kneeing Melbourne’s Nathan Jones.

Geelong’s triple-premiership player Paul Chapman is set to resume in the reserves after overcoming a hamstring injury which has kept him out of AFL action since round four.

Club physio Mike Snelling says Chapman is on track to play VFL against Collingwood in Geelong on Friday.
