Commenting on the opinion piece: Housing is a right, not a luxury

Heck, half of 1950s-60s Adelaide was built as social housing. How did we lose the plot? – David Donaldson

Totally agree with Michelle Gegenuber’s comments. And whilst I agree that it wont be a quick fix, this suggestion could assist in a very short time frame.

Rent assistance paid to those on Centrelink payments in private rentals used to be around half of the rent paid (that’s around 15 years ago). Now it’s not even a quarter. If rent assistance were paid as percentage of rent paid, with an upper limit, then in would assist those at the lowest incomes as soon as it was agreed to. Sure it won’t be cheap. But as Michelle points out, it’s cheaper than allowing more and more of the most vulnerable from becoming homeless. – Helen Chadwick

Commenting on the story: Hydrogen conference set to fuel emerging SA industry

It is important to make the distinction between “green” hydrogen and the former federal government’s much vaunted “clean” hydrogen.

If the hydrogen is produced using fossil gas, as is the case for most of the announced hydrogen hubs it is not green, even if CCS, a failed technology so far, is used, as in “blue” hydrogen. – Graeme McLeay

Commenting on the story: Kicking goals to preserve SA football history

Congratulations to Michelangelo for a great story and  doubly so to Christine Halbert for her work in coordinating the preservation of this important part of our history.

To my regret I missed the exhibition the first time round but I won’t miss it this time! – Jake Howie
