From technical expert to confident and capable leader

More often than not, people who are good at what they do are promoted to lead others – often without any development. Leadership requires a different mindset and capabilities.

The Leaders Institute of South Australia, a not-for-profit organisation established 24 years ago solely to develop holistic leaders to positively impact the State, has two upcoming programs designed specifically to build the leadership confidence and capabilities of team leaders and managers.

The hands-on programs – Amplify, running in the CBD, and Northern Leaders, offered at Mawson Lakes – have been heralded as highly successful in developing participants into big picture, authentic and effective leaders.

2022 participant and JBS&G national lead people and talent Haley Tamblyn found undertaking the program instrumental in her leadership development.

“The program helped me understand and develop my purpose and impact as a leader,” Tamblyn said.

“The program taught me more about my leadership style and how to bring out the best in both myself and those around me.

“The focus on skills such as adaptive leadership, communication, change management and people development has given me the confidence to be an authentic and effective leader in my workplace.

“I also loved the opportunity to get to know a diverse cross-section of leaders from different stages of their career and organisations right across South Australia through the duration of this course.

“I highly recommend this course to emerging and established leaders in SA!”

The Leaders Institute Amplify program starts 17 May, while the Northern Leaders program starts 14 June

Youth Opportunities head of training Larry Waller explained the benefits he has found after placing his employees through the programs.

“Youth Opportunities has a fulfilling and positive relationship with the Leaders Institute of South Australia based on lived experience of our staff attending the leadership training offered by the institute,” Waller said.

“We now have at least four staff members who have attended programs and we would fully support sending more in 2023.

“The presenters, staff support and outstanding training is of a high quality, and I would recommend any manager to experience the programs to further develop their skills, knowledge and experience.

“Learning from peers, excellent resources and industry professionals with life experience in a safe and appropriate space allows real growth to take place transferable to the workplace.”

The programs start in May and June.
