Courting the millennial market: the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan

With hi-tech MBUX wizardry, a sporty design language and bucketloads of comfort, the new C-Class sedan signals ‘made it’ in a very millennial way.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan is not your Grandpa’s or your parents’ car.

With its dynamic lines and expressive new diamond radiator grille – a universe of tiny three-pointed stars – the C-Class Sedan has the classic hallmarks of success, but it does not whisper “I’ve made it.”

Instead, open the door to the interior and it fairly shouts, “Come and play!”

In the C 200 and C 300 Artico-upholstered seats and extensively sculpted surfaces deliver a minimalistic design, while the vertical 30cm touchscreen in the centre console hints at what is to come.

The second generation MBUX – aka the Mercedes-Benz User Experience – delivers a driving experience that should only be described as next-level fun.

To adjust the interior’s ambient lighting to one of sixty-four colours, interact through the intuitive-to-use and fast-to-respond touchscreen, say “Hey Mercedes” or just wave a hand in the light’s direction. Ditto for seat positions, driving modes, navigation and the entertainment system.

The optional MBUX Augmented Reality for navigation gives the driver an edge in getting from A-to-B without breaking a sweat. Front cameras capture the road ahead with pop-up graphics of street names, house numbers and arrows showing the way.

Opt for the heads-up display to supplement the digital dashboard and the expanse of hi-tech displays turns driving from a point-and-steer exercise to an immersive, sense-engaging experience.

Also worth mentioning is the built-in fingerprint sensor that unlocks each driver’s personalised MBUX settings.

Passive and active safety features include a total of ten airbags across driver and all passengers, 360-degree external cameras, blind spot assist, driver drowsiness monitors and many more.

The C 300 has additional safety features including evasive steering assist and a Pre-Safe side-impact anticipation and protection system. Even they sound like fun; evasive driving anyone?

Pricing starts from $78,900 excluding on-road costs.
