The HWA event explores the convergence of what we know as the real and digital worlds, with events aimed at those in the tech community, the digital community and curious South Australians alike.

“What we are focusing on at Hybrid World this year, are the vital and important technologies that are going to shape the future,” said Tercek. “There are technologies and companies in Australia, in particular, South Australia, that are applying these technologies to solve problems right now here in Australia, and potentially outside of the country.”

The event incorporates three stages: a lab stage, a series of interactive events, and finally, a tech conference with over 20 guest speakers spanning all areas of digital and technological industries such as artificial intelligence, augmented biology and smart cities.

“The point of the program is to acquaint the people of South Australia with the technologies that are going to be relevant to them,” said Tercek. “The festival we run over the weekend is for the public, mostly families; we have a code academy, live action role-playing games and e-sports competitions – giving people a chance to get hands-on.”

Starting with an HWA lab stage, aimed at developing ideas among entrepreneurs and start-ups, people will have the opportunity to compete for up to $85000 in grants, with the event bringing dozens of companies and mentors together to workshop their innovative ideas.

“We have a two-day start-up workshop over the weekend. We selected about 20 companies who are going to go through the program with mentors,” said Tercek. “At the end, we will have a competition where we will pick six companies to pitch in front of the audience at the conference.”

The conference will include talks from Professor Genevieve Bell, Dr Phillip Alvelda, Dr Paddy Neuman and many more.

“The two-day conference starts on Monday, and we have some suburb speakers, including four speakers on private space adventures, and a representative from the city of Adelaide who will be talking about the 10 gigabyte network they are building,” said Tercek. “We are mostly interested in the companies that have the potential to break out of Australia, that’s why we are calling the second day Bigger Than Australia.”

Tercek’s conference-opening overview titled Five Technologies That Will Shape Your Future will circulate ideas surrounding the foreseeable changes in our day-to-day life that will be influenced by advancing technologies.

“I’ll be talking about five things I think will be very relevant this year. Everything is interesting, but not everything is relevant,” said Tercek.“The technologies I am going to talk about on Monday are the cloud, the Internet of things, machine intelligence and software automation.”

Previously, Tercek has worked with an impressive array of corporations, individuals and multi-media networks such as Sony Computer Entertainment, Nokia, Marvel Entertainment, The Oprah Winfrey Network, CBS Sports and Motorola.

Along with HWA, Tercek has previously spoken at E3 Entertainment Expo, Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest, as well as authoring a highly successful, award-winning book VAPORIZED: Solid Strategies for Success In A Dematerialized World.

Tercek has been actively interacting with South Australian tech companies, including taking the time to sit down with local digital entertainment and blockchain enthusiasts while here for the event.
