The 61-year-old was charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the crash on the Stuart Highway on Monday.

Emergency service were called to the scene at Kootaberra at about 2:50pm after reports a car hit a tree.

A 63-year-old man who was rear passenger died, while the driver and two other occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and the driver was later arrested. She was refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today.

The Stuart Highway reopened early Tuesday morning.
