Murray River Council CEO Michael Sedgman said the constant documentation from the camera will assist the council to monitor the river’s activity.

“We felt a visual representation that was easily accessible was valuable in keeping the community informed about what is happening with the river,” Sedgman said.

Murray Bridge water levels had reached 1.508m as of yesterday.

According to the latest advice from the Department for Environment and Water, River Murray water levels will peak on 28 December 2022.

“We are observing a rise in the river levels and we are starting to see some inundation in the riverbank in the Murray Bridge,” Sedgman said.

He urged residents to access the best available information about the river levels and potential inundation through the State Government website.

“If the information indicates that your property is likely to be impacted you need to have a plan, like you would for a bushfire,” he said.

“It is important that if it’s clear that your property will be impacted, you need to act now.”

Sedgman said the “flow cam” would also help people who are planning to visit the area.

“People can see for themselves, in real time, that we are not under water and that Murray Bridge is a thriving destination worth checking out this summer,” Sedgman said.

He said some events have been relocated from the riverfront to keep Murray Bridge open for business over the summer, including Monarto Safari Park and a new state-of-the-art racing club facility.

“Even without the usual riverfront activities, Murray Bridge is one big playground,” Sedgman said.

“There’s plenty to learn and experience and lots of ways to lay back, relax and let the kids have some fun.”
