Police said on Tuesday that a 67-year-old man was found unresponsive with a serious head injury on the Eyre Highway at Scotdesco on January 20.

He had been assaulted and his Mitsubishi Pajero was stolen and found abandoned on Fowler’s Bay Road.

A 39-year-old Thevenard man and 28-year-old Yalata woman were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery on January 20.

Both will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court May 1.

The man died in hospital on March 20.

Police and SES members are now searching both sides of the Eyre Highway, between Scotdesco Community and Nundroo, for a weapon police believe was used in the assault.

Speed restrictions will be in place during the search.

Police believe the two suspects hitch-hiked from the junction of Fowler’s Bay Road to Nundroo on the day of the attack.

Anyone with dash cam footage or who gave two people a lift on January 20 are asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
