Three die in Eyre Highway truck collision

An Adelaide man and two men from interstate have been identified as the victims of a truck collision which closed the Eyre Highway on the state’s west coast for much of Thursday.

Police said that two trucks hit each other on the Eyre Highway about 27km west of Yalata just before 7am yesterday.

A 77-year-old man from Smithfield in Adelaide’s north who was driving a road train died in the collision, along with a a 25-year-old New South Wales man and 45-year-old man from Victoria who were in the second truck.

The Eyre Highway was closed for most of the day while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene but it reopened last night.

Police have warned of further travel delays with possible closures of the highway as the vehicles and trailers are removed.

The deaths take the state’s road toll for the year to 26.
