Over one million speeding fines issued on SA roads since 2019
South Australians have paid out more than $400 million in speeding fines in the last five years, with last year’s offences the highest in a decade, according to RAA figures.

The RAA said 1,008,709 speeding fines had been issued in SA since 2019, with penalties worth about $417 million.
Last year 202,358 speeding fines were issued by SA Police, an increase of 3548 from 2022.
Police also detected 46,307 speeding offences last year, the highest since 2013.
Mobile cameras in 2023 picked up 96,438 speeders, while fixed cameras detected 59,613.
From 2020-2023 there was a 26 per cent increase in drivers caught speeding by mobile cameras compared to the previous four years, with a 36 per cent reduction in fines captured by fixed cameras.
RAA senior traffic engineer Matt Vertudaches said 14,624 people were found driving at least 20 km/h over the speed limit in 2023.
“Many drivers are still willing to risk a serious fine and put others in danger by exceeding the speed limit,” he said.
“Inappropriate speed continues to be a major contributing factor to serious and fatal crashes.
“Even small increases in speed mean you will travel a longer distance before you can react and bring your vehicle to a stop if something unexpected occurs on the road.”
