Kevin Jewell is believed to be armed with a rifle and ammunition and driving a white Mitsubishi Triton utility, which was last seen heading north near Port Wakefield at about 7.30pm Tuesday.

A warrant was obtained for Jewell’s arrest in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday for the charge of murder.

Police believe he could be looking to hide out in the bush, as he was seen loading items including a backpack and an esky from the home on Tuesday afternoon.

Superintendent Des Bray said Jewell was known to like hunting and camping and warned the public not to approach him as he was “armed and dangerous”.

Bray said all police resources would be used to hunt Jewell and urged the gunman to turn himself in.

“We are actively looking for you and we will locate you. I encourage you forthwith, straight away, without any delay to engage with a solicitor and negotiate your safe surrender to police,” he said on Wednesday.

“The alert has gone to every police officer in the state. We’ve got aircraft looking for him and we’ve got a large amount of people devoted to finding him.”

Bray said Jodie Jewell, 55, was estranged from her husband but they lived on separate floors of their home. Jodie Jewell had previously told a friend she had been the victim of domestic violence but had not reported it, Bray said.

The friend became concerned when she couldn’t contact Jodie Jewell on Tuesday and contacted police who went to the home and found her body.

Police on Wednesday again publicly appealed for Kevin Jewell to surrender.

Although Jewell was known to be able to live off the grid, he would have to come into town eventually.

“You can’t hide forever,”Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Thompson on ABC Radio Adelaide.

“Basically at some stage he will need fuel, he will need food. There will come a time that he will surface.”

Thompson appealed for Jewell to “hand yourself in peacefully”.

“The tragic events that happened on Tuesday night unfortunately can’t be changed,” he said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kevin Jewell or his vehicle is asked to contact the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131 444.
