Teens arrested over alleged carjacking

Four teenage girls have been arrested after allegedly stealing a rideshare car at knifepoint, prompting a police chase in the eastern suburbs early this morning.

Police said that officers were called to North East Rd at Windsor Gardens just before 3am Thursday, after a ride share driver was allegedly threatened with a knife by a group of female passengers who then took her black Lexus.

Police say a patrol saw the car on Dequetteville Terrace before it headed towards The Parade, sparking a short pursuit.

The car hit a number of parked cars on Grey Street at Norwood before hitting a kerb on Sydenham Road.

Police say the occupants ran from the car but the driver was caught nearby. A police helicopter and dog patrol were called in and three other people were arrested.

The alleged 14-year-old driver was charged with aggravated robbery, illegal use, drive dangerously to escape police pursuit, property damage and driving unlicensed. She did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court today.

A 14-year-old girl was charged with theft and illegal use and will appear in court today, while another 14-year-old and a 15-year-old were charged with offences. Police said a decision on bail for the last two had not yet been made.
