Police this morning said that Major Crime detectives arrested and charged the 30-year-old man last night with the murder of Ronan Davies.

Ronan was taken by ambulance to Women’s and Children’s Hospital on the evening of Wednesday June 7, where he was found to have severe head and other internal injuries.

Ronan died on June 9.

Police allege that a family friend inflicted Ronan’s injuries while caring for him on June 7. Police say Ronan’s father called the ambulance after his son was returned and could not be roused.

Detective Inspector Mark McEachern said on June 27 when declaring the boy’s death a major crime that Ronan’s injuries would not have been obvious.

“Ronan’s been returned home, apparently asleep. We suspect he sustained injuries sometime prior to that,” he said.

“We have been provided with an explanation of how Ronan’s injuries occurred.

“We’re not satisfied with the explanation that’s been given to us.”

The charged man was refused bail and will appear in court today.
