In a statement issued a short time ago, the Todd family thanked police, ambulance officers, doctors, nurses and others who assisted after Brevet Sergeant Ian Todd, 53, from Port Germein Police Station, and Brevet Sergeant Jordan Allely, 32, from Crystal Brook Police Station were stabbed at Crystal Brook on Wednesday.

“In particular, we would like to thank the member of the public who came to the scene and rendered assistance to them both,” the family said.

“We are grateful for the courage that they displayed during such a confronting incident. We would also like to thank the staff at Crystal Brook Hospital, Royal Adelaide and MedStar for their care, compassion and treatment.

“We are also grateful to our local police community, the wider policing community, family, friends and other well-wishers for all of the messages we have received. That overwhelming support has made a huge difference to our family at this difficult time.

“My family and I appreciate all of the many thoughts and well wishes we have received as we continue to focus on Ian’s recovery, and are grateful for the privacy shown to us at this difficult time.”

The two officers were stabbed during an altercation at Crystal Brook in the state’s mid-north yesterday.

They had gone to a Symons Street home at 10.15am on Tuesday to follow up on an incident at a local supermarket the day before.

But the two officers were stabbed, before their attacker was shot dead.

Todd sustained “life-threatening critical injuries” with stab wounds to the neck, arm and hands while Allely was stabbed in the right leg and arm and was in a serious but stable condition.

The officers were flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Stevens provided an update on their condition this morning.

“Jordan Allely, who is the officer in charge of Crystal Brook, he was moved to a ward at about 8 o’clock and is doing reasonably well,” the police commissioner told FIVEaa.

“Obviously there’s a lot of trauma that’s involved with an incident like this, notwithstanding the physical injuries.

“Ian Todd, who is the officer in charge of Port Germain, who was with Jordan, was in surgery until about 11.30 last night.

“As we said yesterday, he suffered life-threatening injuries.

“The outcome of the surgery is reasonably positive, he’s not out of the woods yet but I think we’re feeling a lot better about his condition today then we were yesterday.”

Stevens told Nine that Todd was “still in an induced coma but the prospects are looking much better than yesterday”.

Counsellors have been sent to Port Pirie to help police officers affected by the incident.

“Senior leadership team at Port Pirie kicked into gear to make sure the people who directly attended this job were being supported,” Stevens said.

“We have employee assistance section counsellors went to Port Pirie and they’re there for the next day or two to work with the officers who had to attend Crystal Brook and undertake specific roles.

“We’ve got two families now who are devastatingly impacted by what’s happened to their loved ones.

“And you can’t get help wonder how they feel about that person going to work the next day, even if they weren’t directly involved.”
