SA Police issued five separate fines totalling $11,157 to workers driving Fleet SA government-owned vehicles between April and September last year.

The most expensive expiation notice cost $2373. It included a $1800 “corporate fee” and $67 “reminder fee”.

SA Police caught one government staffer driving 106km/h in a 90km/h zone, with another pinged for driving 67km/h in a 50km/h area. Other fines were issued to employees driving 10km/h or less over the speed limit.

No MPs were caught speeding while driving government-owned vehicles over the past year.

The government mandates that drivers of government-owned vehicles must pay traffic infringement notices on behalf of the agency for which they work.

The speeding offences were committed in Dry Creek, West Beach, Goodwood, Adelaide and North Adelaide.

The information was released to the Opposition following a freedom of information request.

The Opposition had requested access to all speeding fines received by Fleet SA vehicles since the March 2022 state election and February 14 this year.

The documents are now publicly available on the Department of Treasury and Finance’s freedom of information online disclosure log.

According to the South Australian Government Financing Authority, the government on June 30 last year owned 6773 passenger, SUV and light commercial vehicles.
