The state government announced today that DPC deputy chief executive Dr Jon Gorvett will take over as CEO of the EPA on May 1.

Gorvett has been deputy CEO of DPC since July 2021 and an executive within the Department since 2017, including a four month stint as acting CEO.

He has held a range of roles across government, including executive director of intergovernmental and diplomatic relations at DPC, climate change director at the Department for Environment and Water and 1st secretary, environment at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Brussels.

He is also a former head of branch at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.

According to the state government, Gorvett was Britain’s lead negotiator with the European Union on climate change and has also advised the UK Prime Minister, ministers and ambassadors on reforming the EU’s emissions trading system and C02 regulations.

In South Australia, he led emergency management teams responding to the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires and the onset of COVID-19.

Gorvett will replace acting EPA chief executive Keith Baldry.

Baldry stepped up to the role after long-time EPA boss Tony Circelli left the agency in September to lead Recycling Victoria.
