Police said a short time ago that a 60-year-old truck driver has been arrested and charged with two counts of cause injury by dangerous driving following the incident outside Marryatville High School this morning.

The male and female student were hit by a truck while crossing Kensington Rd outside the school just before 8am.

They were rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment, while the truck driver was not injured.

SA Police superintendent Narelle Kameniar said at a mid-morning press conference that the truck driver “may have gone through a red light”.

The truck driver has been bailed to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 7.

“A truck delivering goods was involved in a collision with these two students,” she said.

Kameniar said the 16-year-old boy was in a critical condition while the girl has serious injuries.

She said that police were obtaining “numerous witness statements” about the collision and a number of other children were in the area at the time.

“It is a tragedy for everybody who witnessed this,” she said.

“My heart goes out to the families of these two children and the school that they’re from.

“It’s obviously very distressing for them.”
