Yesterday, SA Power Networks cancelled scheduled work across the Adelaide CBD and extra crews were called in from Victor Harbor and Mount Barker to help restore power including to several schools, some forced to re-schedule Naplan testing.

“Our crews are continuing with restoration work to get customers back on, we will update customers with our SMS system with restoration times,” SAPN spokesman Paul Roberts said.

Roberts said it was difficult to predict when all power would be restored and advised those not connected to the network’s SMS system to call 131261 for further assistance.

He said at some sites where large trees had destroyed Stobie poles and pulled down power lines, crews needed to assess the site then call in cranes to lift in new poles and install cross arms and new power lines.

“It can take eight to 12 hours to replace a Stobie pole and a number of them have been affected,” he said.

Yesterday, there were as many as 75 power outages affecting 33,118 households reported by 8.45am, with that number revised down to 30,874 households at 12 noon.

Blackouts extended from Adelaide’s east and foothills down to Morphett Vale and Hackham in the south.

Homes were blacked out in suburbs including Modbury, Para Vista and Valley View, Firle, Kensington, Magill and Frewville.

SES crews responded to 365 incidents of trees down or weather damage.
