Young woman hit after drunk drivers collide

Police are continuing to investigate a crash at Burton on Saturday night between two drunk drivers that has left a pedestrian in hospital with serious injuries.

Police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Alberta Drive and Bolivar Road just after 7.30pm, after a Hyundai sedan and a Holden sedan crashed.

The Hyundai then struck and seriously injured a 23-year-old Paralowie woman, who was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 48-year-old woman from Alberton, returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.175.

She was arrested and charged with cause harm by dangerous driving, aggravated due care and drink driving and was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 30 November.

The driver of the Holden, a 71-year-old man from Burton, returned an alleged blood alcohol reading of 0.117.

He was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Road closures were in place for several hours and both vehicles were seized by police.
