The driver of the car, a 16-year-old youth from Craigmore, was arrested and taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with minor injuries.

He is expected to be charged later today.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Melton in Victoria and an 18-year-old woman from Elizabeth South, were both taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Just after 9.30pm last night, patrols tried to stop a Holden Commodore on Petherton Road, Andrews Farm after it was identified the car was currently defected, however the driver failed to stop. Police did not pursue the car and lost sight of it.

A few minutes later, patrols and emergency crews were called to the RAAF Base on Andrews Road at Penfield, after the same car had crashed into a fence. Three people were seen running from the car with the deceased youth found lying on the ground next to the Holden.

Patrols, with the assistance of PolAir and RAAF personnel searched the base and located the three seen running from the car.

The teenager’s death is the 53rd life lost on our roads this year as compared to 68 for this time last year.

Meantime, police are investigating an overnight robbery at a Fulham hotel.

About 12.45am this morning, police were called to the Lockleys Hotel on Henley Beach Road hotel after reports that a man armed with a knife had threatened staff, before jumping over the gaming room counter and stealing cash.
