The Bureau of Meteorology says a front sweeping in from the west will bring up to 20 millimetres of rain to Adelaide along with the chance of a “possibly severe” thunderstorm and strong winds.

The wet weather is expected to persist into Thursday and Friday with a maximum of 16mm of rain forecast over the two days, but there have been no flood warnings issued so far.

The forecast conditions have prompted the state government to call a Code Blue which activates extra support for those people sleeping rough.

It will remain in force until Friday morning.

A number of accommodation services will stay open overnight and others will operate on extended hours.

“Winter might be officially over but rough sleepers are still exposed to cold and wet weather that places them at risk,” Human Services Minister Nat Cook said.

“I encourage anyone who knows someone who is rough sleeping, or anyone who is rough sleeping to contact Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308 if they need to know where to go to get out of the weather and get help to stay safe.
