Commenting on the opinion piece: Wellness is an industry which doesn’t help women advance
The authors’ commentary on what they perceive wellness to be is complete rubbish. It is obvious that they really do not understand what wellness for women is about at all.
The real wellness industry is not focused on dieting, appearance, weight or constant positivity. In fact, the real wellness industry encourages women to move away from societal expectations about how they should look and act. The industry encourages women to embody confidence and acceptance for who they are, by understanding that they are enough and do not need to change anything about themselves for anybody.
Having said that, if there are aspects of themselves they would like to change, the real wellness industry encourages women to do so through healthy, achievable goals that they can easily incorporate into their daily life – not through crash dieting, spending thousands of dollars or exercising for hours every day.
It is so disappointing and upsetting to read this article as it puts a huge dampener on an industry that is actually empowering women.
It is ironic that these authors tell women to follow their anger, not their bliss, when women can only follow their anger once they understand their own value and self-worth. It is this understanding of one’s own value and self-worth which is what the wellness industry is really all about. – Jasmin Weatherley
Commenting on the story: Paramedic hits back at Govt over disability neglect case
It’s not just disability services. The aged care sector is in crisis.
My aunt who is in an upmarket aged care facility has dementia, and had shingles all over her upper torso for several days before they were discovered by me. She is supposed to be showered each day, which clearly she wasn’t. – Maria Zito
