Flinders partners OzAsia Festival

Apr 28, 2015

Flinders University has come on board as a Festival Partner for the 2015 OzAsia Festival.

OzAsia – Australia’s leading international arts festival focusing on Asia, presented by Adelaide Festival Centre – is held annually and features the best contemporary theatre, dance, music, visual arts and film from across Asia, as well as supporting artistic exchange between Australia and Asia.

Flinders University Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Nancy Cromar said the university’s involvement in this year’s festival would be a celebration of the university’s existing partnerships and encourage greater cultural and creative links.

“This partnership not only reflects Flinders University’s social and educational collaboration with Indonesia, but also its commitment to cultural exchange and engagement to enhance diplomacy, business and trade with the Asia region,” Professor Cromar said.

The OzAsia Festival is a city-wide event incorporating theatres, galleries, cinemas and outdoor spaces.

The university’s partnership with OzAsia will provide a range of unique opportunities for its students over the coming months, as well as during the festival which runs from September 23 to October 4.

Flinders creative arts and drama students will have an opportunity to participate in master classes with internationally renowned artists from the Asia region. Post-graduate film students will also produce a collection of short films that will premiere as part of the OzAsia Festival program.

The spectacular Moon Lantern Festival again will be a highlight of OzAsia, with Flinders staff, students and alumni invited to participate in moon lantern workshops and be involved in the parade.

OzAsia Festival Director Joseph Mitchell said the partnership between the OzAsia Festival and Flinders University would help foster opportunities for students wanting to engage more with Asian arts and culture.

“As part of the 2015 OzAsia Festival program students from Flinders University will have hands-on creative experiences with leading artists from across Asia,” Mr Mitchell said.

“This includes masterclasses, workshop opportunities and the world premiere screening of nine short films created by Flinders University film students as part of the OzAsia Festival film program.”
