The show’s finale will go to air in the UK on Monday, August 1. Network 10 is yet to officially announce its run date in Australia.

Neighbours, with its generations of viewers dating back to the opening scene in 1985, has promised fans an ending that will have something for everyone.

Show favourites Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue are returning for its final episode.

Describing the pair’s characters, Scott and Charlene, as the “ultimate Neighbours couple”, executive producer Jason Herbison said it would not have felt right to end the show without them.

“We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale,” Herbison told his social media followers earlier this year.

The experience of filming the episode was an emotional one for the pair and also for the show’s production team, he said.

Two million Australians and almost 20 million viewers in Britain tuned in to watch Donovan’s Scott Mitchell and Minogue’s Charlene Robinson tie the knot in episode 523, aired in 1987.

The show announced its cancellation in March after its main UK broadcast partner Channel 5 announced it would no longer screen the series.
