Founder and Managing Director of Build Clean, Sam Ackland wants to have a positive impact on society by creating long-term work and a company focused on great culture and premium service delivery.

Ackland said Build Clean’s ideology was to change the perception of cleaners in the industry by creating a workplace “delivering the best in cleaning” and that winning the 40 Under 40 Entrepreneurial award in 2020 has helped him achieve these goals.

“I entered 40 Under 40 as a way to gain credibility as a business leader and position Build Clean as the leading company in my industry,” Ackland said.

“Winning has given both me and Build Clean confidence in our vision to have a positive impact on society.”

Now in its fifth year, InDaily’s 40 Under 40 Awards will be announced at a gala event on June 9 at the Adelaide Oval where the next crop of South Australia’s young entrepreneurs and business leaders will join the elite alumni.

The 40 Under 40 Awards celebrate the impact South Australia’s finest young business people have on shaping the future of our state. The program recognises not only the personal determination and commercial drive of these leaders but also the philanthropic pursuits that balance these individuals’ professional achievements. The 40 Under 40 come from across industries and sectors, from startups to large corporations, but they are united in their passion for South Australia.

It is easy to nominate yourself or someone you know for the awards here.

Ackland said being named in the 40 has given him a platform for networking at the highest level in South Australia.

“Being in a room with the state’s top young leaders is a real vibe,” he said.

“The connections made have not only advanced my company but also challenged my views and beliefs about what is possible.”

The winners will join the 40 Under 40 Alumni, which is 160 strong at the moment and will swell to 200 in June.

“The 40 Under 40 is the state’s top alumni community and placing myself in this group validated my personal abilities and abolished my imposter syndrome,” Ackland said.

Business leaders have until Friday, April 1 to submit their online application outlining why they should be considered for inclusion in the exclusive group, their business successes and failures, and how they contribute to the community.

The InDaily 40 Under 40 is made possible by a wide range of sponsors, which also provide individual awards for specific categories.

Ackland won the Entrepreneurial Award sponsored by William Buck and he said the support provided by the leading firm of accountants and advisors has been invaluable in helping him grow his business.

“Winning the entrepreneur award and spending a day with the great Matt Illman from William Buck was the foundation for a very strong relationship,” Ackland said.

“The insights provided by William Buck were deeply valuable but the biggest take away was the relationship made with Matt.

“We often meet at the local coffee shop with our families in tow and talk everything from business strategy to fatherhood tactics. This showed me that even though William Buck is a large firm, the people within it are, in every essence, bloody great people.”

Once the nominations are received, a panel of judges chaired by South Australia’s Chief Entrepreneur Andrew Nunn will evaluate the applications and decide on the 40 for 2022.

“As Chair of the judging panel for this year’s 40 under 40, I’m looking forward to being surprised and amazed at the level of innovation, creativity, and risk-taking that the under 40s cohort has been engaged with over the last few years,” Nunn said.
