2014 Kangaroo Island FEASTival dates announced

The 2014 Kangaroo Island FEASTival has been confirmed for Thursday April 24 – Monday April 28.

The final two days of the event will overlap with the commencement of Tasting Australia in Adelaide, offering a double dose of South Australian culinary adventure for food and wine lovers.

2014 will mark the third year of the FEASTival which this year saw attendee numbers double and attracted chefs including Maggie Beer, George Calombaris and Andrew Fielke.

Festival Director Nick Hannaford says, while next year’s chef line up is yet to be revealed, he can announce some exciting activities that will form part of the program.

“Firstly, the FEASTival’s ‘Big Day Out’ will be back, with more hands-on cooking demonstrations, opportunities to interact with local producers, tasting stalls and kids’ activities,” Mr Hannaford says.

“Next year the name of this feature event will be ‘FEAST KI’ and it will again be an all-day affair hosted seaside on the Kangaroo Island wharf.

“I believe that the setting and company in which you eat and drink is integral in creating a memorable experience so, for other intimate events, we will be taking guests into breathtaking wilderness environments, surprise ‘pop up’ destinations and even producers’ personal homes.”

Other activities will include master cooking classes, fine dining events, casual soirees and social tastings, all designed to tell the many stories of the island.

“KI is a hub of creativity and innovation, as more and more people are discovering, and the pristine environment means that the food and wine products are of incredible purity and quality,” Mr Hannaford says.

“We want to showcase these unique products, such as marron, sheep’s milk cheese, Ligurian honey and native juniper berry gin, plus world class wines, in a format that we like to think of as a multi-day degustation.”

Chefs appearing at the 2014 FEASTival will be announced over the coming months, with the full program launched and tickets on sale in November.
