The Hilton Hotel’s renovations have paid off with The Collins Bar winning best small bar over Leigh Street’s udaberri at the Restaurant & Catering SA Awards last night.

There were just two nominations in the new award which was sponsored by Lion and was celebrated by the bar on its Twitter account: “Woooohooooo first award nomination and we WON!!! Small bar of the year award.”

Windy Point Restaurant was named restaurant of the year at the industry awards function which was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Restaurant & Catering SA’s Chief Executive Officer Sally Neville said the winners should be congratulated for their professionalism and hard work, servicing locals as well as interstate and overseas visitors.

“It’s great to see many of our awards going to venues in the regions demonstrating the high quality of our premium food and wine experiences,” she said.

Last year’s Electrolux Australian Young Chef winner, Franklin Street’s Public chef Stewart Wesson took out best chef over 12 others including Assaggio’s Camillo Crugnale and Eric Duval from Vino Ristorante.

Wesson’s win followed the launch of his new menu last Friday night which includes Coffin Bay oysters with lemon zest.

Wesson said his philosophy was to create a relaxed environment with food people could share and enjoy.

The Individual Hall Of Fame Award was presented to Ingo Schwarze who was integral in establishing the world class patisserie course at TAFE SA Regency Campus.

The prestigious Lifetime Achiever Award was presented to George Belperio, an Italian industry stalwart in SA and one of the original owners of the Fasta Pasta Group.

Best breakfast went to Chianti Classico, while the popular choice went to Rigoni’s Bistro.

Argo on the Parade won best coffee/tea house against it’s city sister Argo on the Square, Coffee Branch, Saffron Sky, Signature and eight different Cibo Espresso shops.
