Director named at Legal Services Commission

A veteran lawyer with extensive interstate leadership experience will move to South Australia to head up the state’s biggest legal assistance service.

Annmarie Lumsden will take up her role as Legal Services Commission director in September, taking over from outgoing director Gabrielle Canny who is leaving after more than a decade.

Lumsden has previously worked in the ACT Attorney-General’s Department, been deputy chief executive and director of criminal law with Legal Aid NSW, and was most recently CEO of Legal Aid NT.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher said Lumsden was appointed after an extensive recruitment process.

“She is a dedicated, experienced lawyer whose commitment to social justice and dedication to the profession earned her a top award from her peers in New South Wales,” he said.
