Tony Brumfield, who has been the Chief Operating Officer at the Public Trustee for the past 12 years, has been appointed the state’s next Public Trustee.

Brumfield is taking over from Nicolle Rantanen, who was appointed in 2020.

The Public Trustee is responsible to the Attorney-General for management of the Public Trustee Office and implementation of the Public Trustee Act.

Brumfield will act as administrator, executor or trustee of deceased estates, administrator or manager of estates of protected persons, and as attorney or agent.

Prior to his role as Public Trustee COO, Brumfield worked in executive-level corporate services and finance positions with Defence SA, Primary Industries and Resources SA, the Department of Treasury and Finance, and the Environment Department.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher commended Rantanen for her years in the role.

“Working as the Public Trustee is a challenging but rewarding role that requires significant empathy, compassion and particular expertise,” Maher said.

“In his time as Chief Operating Officer at the Public Trustee, Tony Brumfield has clearly demonstrated these qualities, as well as a genuine commitment to helping those South Australians who require the Public Trustee’s support.”

Maher has also announced industrial relations practitioner Jaspreet Kaur as a Commissioner of the South Australian Employment Tribunal.

Kaur has worked as an in-house representative at several South Australian businesses, in both private and not-for-profit sectors.

She has represented workers through the Working Women’s Centre in the past.

In his role as Industrial Relations and Public Sector Minister, Kyam Maher congratulated Kaur on her appointment.

“Ms Kaur’s significant experience across the industrial relations system…will be a significant asset to the SAET and ensure it can provide high-quality dispute resolution to the community,” Maher said.
