Business Events Adelaide has announced that Ian Horne has taken on the role of Chair, replacing Jim Kouts, who has held the position since 2017.

Horne was previously Deputy Chair at the organisation and has been a Board member since 2014.

Prior to his new role, Horne was the former CEO of the Australian Hotels Association SA and in 2023 received the Tourism Industry Award.

He is currently a Board Member of Tourism Australia, the Adelaide Venue Management Corporation and the South Australian Skills Commission. Since 2006, he has also been Company Secretary/Board Director at Gaming Care, an agency that aims to prevent gambling addictions by providing early intervention.

Business Events Adelaide is a 50-year-old not-for-profit organisation with the goal of gaining business-related events for South Australia.

Uniting Communities has a new Executive Manager

Uniting Communities has appointed Shane Tonkin as its new Executive Manager, Financial Services, replacing Steve Konetschka who is retiring.

Tonkin has over 20 years of consulting and private sector experience, including recently as Finance Director, Airborne Solutions at Leidos Australia, Finance Director, Special Mission at Cobham Aviation Services and as a Partner, Deloitte Financial Advisory at Deloitte Australia.

Uniting Communities says it supports more than 80,000 Australians each year through community services such as alcohol and other drug support, mental health, child protection, as well as aged care and disability services.

New Events and Partnership Manager joins Solstice

Nicole Dale

Nicole Dale has joined Solstice Media as the new Events and Partnerships Manager.

Dale has close to two decades of experience in event and partnership roles, including most recently as Project Marketing and Executive Support Officer at the Department for Trade and Investment.

She has also held positions with Caravan and Camping, Zoos SA and the SA Museum.

Tackling environmental problems

Professor Andrew Lowe has been appointed Director of the University of Adelaide’s Environment Institute, where he has been Interim Director since 2022.

According to the university, in this role Lowe will “tackle some of the most complex and critical environmental problems facing Australia and the world.”

Lowe first joined the Environment Institute in 2019 when it was established by the university.

Lowe was previously Director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance Australia and Director of Agrifood and Wine.

In 2013, Lowe was Acting Director of the South Australian Museum and from 2009-2013 he was Head of Science for the South Australian Government.

Mining Non-Executive Director retires

Professor Dudley Kingsnorth

Professor Dudley Kingsnorth OAM has retired from his role as Non-Executive Director at South Australian-based mining company Australian Rare Earths Limited.

Kingsnorth joined the Board of Australian Rare Earths in 2021 as its inaugural Chairman and held this position until November 2023.

He was honoured for his services to mining and the community on the 2024 Australia Day Honours list, receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia.

Australian Rare Earths explores minerals at its Koppamurra Project in south-eastern South Australia and western Victoria, which it says is “uniquely rich in all the elements required to manufacture of rare earth permanent magnets which are essential components in electric vehicles, wind turbines and domestic appliances.”

Experienced copywriter joins Black Sheep Advertising

David Ormston has joined Black Sheep Advertising as Creative Director.

Ormston has worked as a Freelance Senior Copywriter for the past four and a half years.

Prior to this, he was an Associate Creative Director at Simple Integrated Marketing and an Associate Creative Director at KWP!

Black Sheep Advertising is an advertising agency located on Glen Osmond Road in Parkside.

Law firm promotions

WRP Legal & Advisory has announced the promotion of Stephen Annicchiarico to the role of Director.

Annicchiarico was previously a Senior Associate at the law firm and prior to this was an Associate, a Lawyer and a Law Clerk.

WRP Legal & Advisory has also announced the promotion of Frank Trimboli to Senior Associate, Alice Watson to Associate and Christos Matsoukas to Associate.
