Maggie Beer CEO to step down

CEO of ASX-listed Maggie Beer Holdings Kinda Grange announced her intention to resign from the company “to progress her career externally”.

Grange will work with the company to assist in transitioning to a new CEO.

“Kind has successfully expanded the Maggie Beer brand to deliver strong growth and has step changed out B2B strategy to improve sales in our-ecommerce business,” Maggie Beer Holdings chair Sue Thomas sasid.

“We are pleased that Kinda has agreed to assist in an orderly transition to new leadership and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.”

A departure from Defence SA

Reg Carruthers has announced he will depart from Defence SA at the end of July.

Carruthers has been executive director of defence and space at Defence SA since January 2024 and from October 2016 to March 2020, he was director of aerospace.

Before this, he served with the Royal Australian Air Force, including most recently as director of the Woomera Test Range.

“I will be taking on a new and exciting challenge which I will announce soon; but will reach out to everyone locally, nationally and internationally I have had the pleasure of working with over eight years,” said Carruthers, adding “Per Ardua Ad Astra” (through adversity to the stars).

RAA gets a new CFO

RAA has announced that Tim White will be joining as chief financial officer on October 8.

White is currently the group chief financial officer for Land Services SA and Land Services WA.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous executive roles including general manager of finance for Sky City Adelaide and a director within Deloitte’s commercial advisory group.

RAA said White has “a rare combination global and local experience leading finance and commercial teams in highly-regulated industries including banking, insurance, entertainment and land registry management”.

Chartered accountant plants roots

Chartered accountant James Allen has been appointed to the board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (Botanic Gardens).

Allen is a chartered accountant and partner at Bentleys SA/NT, an advisory board member of the Mill Incorporated Advisory, a member of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand and national chairman of Bentleys Agribusiness Pillar.

Allen has served as a member of the Botanic Gardens’ Finance and Risk Management Subcommittee since 2017 and as treasurer of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens Foundation since 2016.

The Botanic Garden said he brings valuable expertise in business advisory and taxation services, including not-for-profit organisations, start-up enterprises, international taxation and business structuring and succession.

New executive joins ECH

Retirement living and aged services provider ECH has appointed Darryl Cotter as its head of home and community following the retirement of Sally Sobels.

ECH said Cotter will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans that ensure the delivery of high-quality care and regulatory compliance across the provider’s in-home support, nursing and home care, allied health and respite care services.

Cotter was most recently chief operating officer of SILK Laser Australia and has also been general manager of OTR, as well as holding state and national management positions at Target Australia, Spotlight and Coles Group.

Helping those in need

Meals on Wheels SA has announced the appointment of Tamsyn Alley to its board.

The non-profit said Alley has 25 years of management expertise across private, public and government sectors both nationally and internationally.

She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has experience with ASX-listed, government, not-for-profit and member association boards.

Tamsyn is currently CEO of Benson Radiology in South Australia and also sits on the board of directors of disability services and accommodation provider DLi and the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association.

Now in its 70th year, Meals on Wheels is South Australia’s largest volunteer-based organisation and provides 1.1 million meal services across the state each year.

COTA SA appoints strategic advisor

COTA SA – a not-for-profit advocating for South Australians over 50 – has appointed Victoria Cornell as its strategic advisor.

COTA SA said Cornell is a PhD-qualified social science researcher with 30 years of experience in policy development.

She has worked across a number of sectors including academia, government and not-for-profit organisations.

Cornell was most recently the strategic planning and reporting officer at the City of Onkaparinga, where she provided advice on housing issues in the council area and supported responses to policy issues.

Before this, she was a research fellow at the University of Adelaide focusing on end-of-life care for vulnerable populations and she also spent four years as a research manager for ECH.

Cornell’s research and policy interests focus on vulnerability, resilience, disasters, community well-being and aging.

Lawyer joins Windmill Theatre board

Windmill Theatre Company has announced the appointment of Julia Zisos to its board.

Windmill said Zisos is an experienced corporate and commercial lawyer specialising in mergers and acquisitions, with a background in working with charitable organisations.

Zisos is currently an associate at Adelaide-based law firm WRP Legal & Advisory and was recognised as a Rising Star by Australian Lawyer in 2023.

She is also a board member for men’s mental health charity The Next Step Australia.

Windmill is an Adelaide-based youth theatre company whose recent productions include Creation Creation, Grug, Bluey’s Big Play and Moss Piglet.

Resolve Divorce appoints general manager

Resolve Divorce has appointed Sam Cavallaro as general manager of strategy.

Cavallaro holds a Bachelor of Philosophy, a Master of Arts in Piano Performance, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Marketing.

Before joining Resolve Divorce, Cavallaro was most recently principal at business consulting and services provider HorseMaster and account director and digital strategist at advertising agency Showpony.

Resolve Divorce is based on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide and won Boutique Law Firm of the Year at the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards in 2023.

Adelaide City Council CEO appointed

The City of Adelaide has appointed Michael Sedgman as its CEO for a three-year term.

Sedgman has experience in local government and strategic financial management, having previously served as the Murray Bridge CEO from 2015 to 2023.

He has also held senior roles in state and local government, including at the City of Yarra in Melbourne.

Sedgman is a Fellow of CPA Australia, a Fellow of Governance Institute Australia, a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute, has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Commercial Law.

Sedgman has been acting in the new role since December 2023, when previous CEO Clare Mockler resigned.

Magistrates Court appointment

Aaron Almeida

Aaron Almeida has been appointed to the Magistrates Court, replacing retired Magistrate Jayne Basheer.

Almeida has over 20 years experience as a criminal defence lawyer, was the principal of his own firm Almeida and Associates, and has worked as Lead Advocacy Instructor with the College of Law in Adelaide.

Almeida is due to commence work as a Magistrate today.

Legal Services Commission director appointed

Annmarie Lumsden has been appointed director of the Legal Services Commission in South Australia.

Lumsden has worked in the legal profession for over 30 years.

She has worked with the ACT Attorney-General’s Department, been director of Criminal Law with Legal Aid New South Wales, and was CEO of Legal Aid Northern Territory.

Lumsden will begin work at the beginning of September.
