InReview was launched by Solstice Media, publisher of InDaily, SALIFE and CityMag, in February, in response to a growing void in local arts journalism in South Australia.

The Judith Neilson Institute was one of the key backers of the not-for-profit project in its start-up phase, and has now recommitted funding for the 2020-21 financial year.

InReview, a sub-site of InDaily, publishes professional, rigorous and credible arts journalism and cultural commentary each weekday, with an emailed newsletter sent to subscribers on Wednesdays. All of the journalism is free to access.

The Judith Neilson Institute was founded in 2018 by Australian philanthropist Judith Neilson. The non-partisan body funds innovative and high-quality journalism ventures that change society.

The Institute’s core funding for InReview continues alongside the generous, entrepreneurial support of the Helpmann Academy, Arts South Australia, Guildhouse, Adelaide Fringe, donors James Darling AM, Ulrike Klein AO and Tracey Whiting AM, and one-off and recurring donations from supportive and thankful readers.

Solstice Media editorial director David Washington said support for InReview from the Judith Neilson Institute, other donors and the local community had been gratifying.

“We started InReview because we believed the local community – and the arts sector itself – needs independent and properly-resourced arts and cultural journalism,” he said.

“We’re grateful that the Judith Nielson Institute has seen the value in this vision and have backed it 100 per cent.”

Since launching in February, InReview has covered 25 artforms, contracted dozens of local writers, published nearly 300 stories and reviews, and sent more than 20 newsletters to subscribers.
