Maidza’s Switch Tape EP also won the Best Release gong at last night’s awards. Her “Switch Lanes” track took out the APRA AMCOS award for Best Song, and the clip by director and animator Sachio Cook was named Best Music Video.

In addition to his Best Male title, Timberwolf (aka Chris Panousakis) was named APRA AMCOS Best Songwriter.

Music SA general manager Lisa Bishop said she was overwhelmed by how many people joined in the celebrations for the rebranded awards, which were presented at the Mercury Cinema and followed by an after-party at Fowlers Live hosted by Triple J presenter Dom Alessio and Adelaide musician Max Savage.

More than 1500 public votes were received in the category of Most Popular Artist, which was won by metal band Truth Corroded.

Other awards presented included:

Best New Artist: synth-pop band SKIES, which recently released new single “Call for My Heart” and a self-titled EP, which won the Best Cover Art award for artist Jack Vanzet.
