A rift between the SA police union and SAPOL’s top brass has escalated amid a public stoush over continuing COVID vaccine mandates.
UPDATED | SAPOL is in a “full-blown staffing crisis”, with a combination of vaccination mandates, emergency quarantine directions and redeployment to “COVID-related duties” taking hundreds of officers off the frontline and undermining police capacity to “wield effective control over crime”, their union says.
Venues which require double vaccination for entry are likely to enjoy greater freedom from COVID restrictions once South Australia hits 90 per cent vaccination, according to Premier Steven Marshall and Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, with the target now expected to be reached between Christmas and New Year.
