The State Government has threatened to reject the proposal for the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site from the “preferred” developer – with which it has been negotiating for almost a year – and return to the drawing board.
The emergency department at the new Royal Adelaide Hospital opened this morning with a “gentle” start for doctors, but expect a big bang at the other end of town soon with the State Government set to confirm plans for the old hospital’s redevelopment.
The future of the old RAH site is still being considered by the State Government and developers, but the Government is making sure it’s ready to get the maximum PR benefit from the key CBD project.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Stephen Mullighan says if developer Commercial&General wants taller residential towers on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site it will have to yield more space to rejuvenated park lands.
