The 32-year-old will reunite with his former teammate and new Carlton coach David Teague at Ikon Park.

The Crows will receive a future fourth-round draft pick in exchange for Betts, who has kicked 600 goals in a decorated 316-game career.

“Thanks to everyone who has been a part of my journey in Adelaide and for welcoming my family and I with smiles everywhere we go,” Betts said in a statement.

“The past six years have been some of the best and toughest of my football career but I am proud of the person and leader I was able to become at the Crows.”

Adelaide are undergoing a significant list overhaul with Cam Ellis-Yolmen joining Brisbane as a free agent and Hugh Greenwood, Alex Keath and Sam Jacobs also likely to find new homes during the trade period.

I’ve had the A1 seat for the past 6 years getting to watch this magician do what every kid dreams of, kicking goals from the boundary week after week after week. You’re selfless, passionate and you have a huge heart… https://t.co/XA0NfRjosY

Matthew Nicks is expected to be confirmed as the Crows’ new senior coach on Tuesday, replacing the departed Don Pyke.

Betts played the first 184 games of his career at Carlton before joining the Crows as a restricted free agent at the end of 2013.

He played 132 matches for the Crows.

Crows general manager of list management and strategy Justin Reid said Betts had been one of Adelaide’s most popular players.

“He has given our members and supporters so much to cheer about and produced some moments of absolute brilliance and no one will ever forget ‘Eddie’s Pocket’ at Adelaide Oval,” Reid said.

“Eddie has been such an important part of our forward line in recent years, and has consistently hit the scoreboard and brought team mates into the game with a selfless approach.”
