Port Adelaide could be without key forward Jay Schulz for up to 10 weeks as he seeks surgery to correct a persistent back injury.

Schulz has missed the past two AFL games for the Power after injections failed to deliver the desired impact, and he is now considering going under the knife to solve the long-term complaint.

“Jay had surgery last year at the end of the season and there’s a possibility that he may have something similar needed to be done,” coach Ken Hinkley told Channel Nine.

“Worst case, if he did need surgery I think it’s an eight to 10-week recovery so it still gives him plenty of time to get back this year.”

Schulz played 20 games for the Power in 2015, kicking 44 goals and taking 110 marks.

But the club expects influential duo Chad Wingard and Hamish Hartlett to return from injury for Sunday’s away clash against Greater Western Sydney.

Hartlett has missed two games and Wingard one because of hamstring injuries.

Defender Jackson Trengove says if both complete tomorrow’s main training, they’ll be inclusions for the road trip to meet the Giants.

“They are two really quality players. We all know what they can do and what they add to our footy team,” Trengove told reporters yesterday.

“All reports are they are going really well … I’m pretty sure both the boys are pretty close or will play this weekend.

Port (two wins, one loss) meet the Giants after a 10-goal triumph against Essendon which was expected, yet still welcomed by Trengove and his teammates.

“It was a big improvement in the way we want to play our footy,” he said.

“We set up a lot better and were a lot stronger in defence and in attack we were able to bring that exciting style of football.

“It was still a little bit patchy for us … [but] it was definitely a big step in the right direction.”

Meanwhile, Adelaide will be without emerging midfielder Brad Crouch, with the hamstring injury that sidelined him last weekend set to keep him out for two further games.

Crouch was ruled out last Friday because of hamstring soreness and now the Crows have confirmed he will miss two to three weeks.

“Brad has a minor hamstring issue,” Adelaide fitness coach Matthew Bode told the club website.

“We’ve always taken a cautious approach with Brad.”

Paul Seedsman suffered concussion in the big win over Richmond, but he could play next Saturday night against Sydney at Adelaide Oval.
