Geelong is continuing to swing deals in the AFL’s trade period, securing versatile Lachie Henderson from Carlton.
The Cats today traded their first-round selection in the 2016 draft in exchange for the 117-game player who has spent time in the backline and in front of goal for Carlton.
Announcing the deal on its website, the Cats pointed out that Henderson grew up near the town of Birregurra, 60km south-west of Geelong.
Henderson played for the Geelong Falcons TAC Cup team before becoming a top 10 draft pick by the Brisbane Lions in 2007.
He was traded to Carlton as part of the ill-fated deal that took controversial forward Brendon Fevola to Brisbane.
So far this week Geelong has secured Adelaide star Patrick Dangerfield and West Coast midfielder Scott Selwood.
Henderson is the first player in the AFL to be traded for a future draft pick.
