AFL fixture: two Fridays and two Thursdays for Oval

Oct 30, 2014

Port Adelaide and Adelaide have been given one Friday night game each at Adelaide Oval in the 2015 AFL fixture.

Both clubs were also allocated one Thursday night game at the venue.

Port plays Geelong on Friday June 12 while Adelaide hosts Richmond on Friday August 7.

Adelaide gets a blockbuster against Hawthorn on Thursday June 18 and Port hosts Collingwood on Thursday July 9.

The Oval will host plenty of Sunday twilight matches, including the first Showdown of 2015 on May 3.

“Across the country, we have sought to work with the respective clubs in each state for the best timeslots for fans in those parts of the country,” AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said.

“While we cannot meet all requests, we believe there are significant moves as part of today’s fixture release that will be well received, depending on the different needs and requests of fans in different parts of Australia.”

The Adelaide Crows said they were pleased with the 2015 fixture, describing it as well balanced.

The Club opens its season with a home game against North Melbourne on Easter Sunday and finishes with a road trip to Geelong in Round 23.

Crows Chief Executive Officer Andrew Fagan said the fixture offered genuine benefits across the board.

“Every club would always like more elements weighted in its favour, but in this case we have positives from an on-field and commercial perspective, as well as fan friendly elements,” Fagan said.

“Hosting a stand-alone Thursday night match against Hawthorn will be a real highlight of our 25th season. The timing of that match also fits well with planned festivities.

“Our home matches are spread across a mix of timeslots, including four at night at the Adelaide Oval which is a real bonus.

“Among the other positives, our Indigenous programs are thriving and we see it as a real privilege to host a match during Indigenous Round.

“From a high performance perspective, we are happy with the amount of travel, but would have liked another match at the MCG.”
