SANFL footy fix

Jun 11, 2014

Both AFL state league teams are now building ominous form, with the Crows handing Woodville-West Torrens a rare shellacking on the weekend.

With the Port Adelaide Magpies continuing their run of wins – defeating Central Districts – the two AFL clubs are providing the other SANFL clubs with plenty of headaches.

Several clubs have injury worries after the weekend’s indigenous round.

South Adelaide forward Peter Rolfe could miss a fortnight of action after being felled by team-mate Brett Eddy at Envestra Park on Saturday.

Rolfe, who seriously injured his knee at Unley last year, was unable to take his place on the field during the second half after hurting his back in a marking contest.

The luckless goalsneak, who was playing just his fourth league game after a knee reconstruction, will likely undergo scans to determine the extent of his latest setback.

‘’He was certainly pretty sore after the game,’’ South football manager Neill Sharpe said.

‘’It’s only a small hiccup but he will be grateful not to go back to Unley in the short-term. We expect he will be back pretty quickly from it.’’

Glenelg defender Warrick McGinty is a chance to play against South on Sunday despite hobbling from the field against North at Gliderol Stadium on Monday.

McGinty will undergo further assessment on his ankle but like key forward Mitch Thorp, who is recovering from a shoulder ailment, is a chance to confront the Panthers.

North midfielder Ben Williams is will have a precautionary scan after receiving a knock to the head against the Tigers. Williams reported no sign of concussion and was able to play the full match at the Bay on Monday.
