The good news is that Taylor Walker kicked four goals in the SANFL; his next game will be in the AFL.

For Crows fans, that’s where the good news ends.

An upset loss to Melbourne in the AFL has sunk their plans for 2014 and their reserves were well beaten by Port Adelaide in the SANFL Showdown at Clare.

Port Adelaide, on the other hand, is flying.

Six wins and one loss puts them equal top with Hawthorn and Geelong and their reserves side is riding high.

Jay Schulz leads the AFL goalkicking and Brad Ebert shapes as a big chance to add another best and fairest medal to the Ebert family cabinet.

The round in a snapshot:

THEY SAID IT: “Our side right now has got passengers. I couldn’t put a figure on the number, but we have players that just don’t or can’t give that consistency.” Carlton coach Mick Malthouse after Friday night’s 34-point loss to fierce rivals Carlton.

STATS THAT MATTER: Hawthorn’s 145-point win over St Kilda was a record margin between the two clubs. Hawthorn kicked their fifth-highest score and St Kilda had their lowest score against the Hawks.

MAN OF THE ROUND: Fremantle midfielder Lachie Neale was the unanimous choice for the Ross Glendinning Medal as best afield in the crucial derby win over West Coast.

KEY MOMENT: With five minutes left, Melbourne’s Dom Tyson snaps a freak goal off the outside of his boot to give his team a 16-point lead over Adelaide. It sends Crows fans from Adelaide Oval in droves, even though their team only end up losing by three points.

TALKING POINT: Will Sydney star Lance Franklin return from a knee injury to play against old side Hawthorn for the first time this Friday night?

TRIBUNAL WATCH: North Melbourne small forward Lindsay Thomas was reported for striking Gold Coast’s Danny Stanley.

KEY INJURIES: S Dwyer (Coll, knee) N Maxwell (Coll, back) C Young (Coll, leg) J Waite (Carl, hamstring) A Carrazzo (Carl, back) S Mitchell (Haw, hamstring) B Lake (Haw, calf) B Stratton (Haw, hip) J Geary (StK, elbow) M Jaensch (Adel, ribs) T Lynch (Adel, jaw) A Georgiou (Melb, concussion) M Pyke (Syd, hamstring) J Merrett (Ess, cork) D Winderlich (Ess, knee) T Nicholls (GC, knee) Z Dawson (Fre, ankle).

UNDER PRESSURE: That’s four-straight losses for the Eagles, although they should relieve the pressure next Sunday when they host Greater Western Sydney. Adelaide has a bye and awaits the return of Taylor Walker.
