But it has nothing to do with the Brisbane Heat captain’s blistering Big Bash League form that has him earmarked for an international call-up.

Instead of savouring a match-winning BBL knock, Lynn paid tribute to his younger brother Matt who leaves for a six-month Afghanistan stint with the Australian army on Monday.

“Mum is a bit nervous but I have full faith in him – he is doing our country proud,” Lynn said.

“They are the real heroes. It is not blokes going out there bashing sixes.”

Lynn reckoned an international cricket call-up was the last thing on his mind despite extending a stunning BBL run that caught national skipper Ricky Ponting’s attention.

Lynn’s 32-ball 75 helped Brisbane notch their first BBL win of the season and keep their finals hopes alive at a rain soaked Gabba on Sunday night.

He backed up from his last start 101 against Hobart to help Brisbane claim a six-wicket win over Sydney Thunder with three balls to spare in front of 27,507 drenched fans.

Lynn appears a lock for March’s Twenty20 World Cup in India.

He tops this season’s BBL run scorers list with 287 at 95.66 with three games still to play.

He also became the fourth batsman to shatter the BBL 1000-run barrier with his sparkling Gabba knock that featured six sixes and six fours.

And Ponting hinted Lynn had done enough to earn a call-up for the five-match ODI series against India starting in Perth on January 12.

“That’s a nice innings before a one-day team is named,” Ponting told Network Ten before the ODI squad’s Monday announcement.

But Lynn said: “I haven’t thought about any of that to be honest.

“If we don’t (make BBL finals) then I might look at that stuff…we’ve just got to keep winning because you never know we might have a sniff of the semis.”

Brisbane need to win their remaining three games to keep their BBL finals hopes alive.

Lynn ensured Brisbane were thereabouts on Duckworth-Lewis comparisons but he saluted the umpires for letting play continue under steady rain throughout the Heat’s run chase.

“I haven’t played in anything like that before,” said Lynn, who played two T20 internationals in 2014.

“It was pretty slippery but there was nearly 30,000 people here – you’ve got to give them what they want.”
