Surf Life Saving

Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club was crowned the 2021 Senior State Champions on the weekend at South Port. The club dominated many of the water events, including winning Gold, Silver and Bronze in the U17 Male Taplin relay, which pits teams of three against each other in a swim, board and surf ski race.

The President of Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) John Baker ESM has been announced as the new Surf Life Saving Australia President.  The appointment will see Baker become the seventh president in Surf Life Saving Australia’s 114-year history and the Life Member of Brighton SLSC the first member outside of New South Wales and Queensland to be elected.

Softball

A Grade

Sturt are A Grade Premiers after beating Hills 9-3 in Saturday night’s Grand Final at West Beach Diamond 1. Hills got off to a stronger start with a 3-2 lead earlier on in the game, but couldn’t maintain it, with Sturt scoring seven unanswered runs. Sturt’s win puts the icing on the cake for their impressive season which saw them also take out the Minor Premiership.

Baseball

Division 1

Sturt are the 2020/21 Division 1 Premiers after beating Goodwood twice in their Grand Final series held at West Beach Diamond 1 over the weekend. Sturt took control of the series by winning game one comfortably 13-1 on Friday night. Goodwood looked to avenge their disappointing loss the following day in game two, needing a win to force a winner-decides-it-all game three. Despite a tight contest in game two where they once held a two-run lead, they couldn’t capitalise and eventually lost 3-2. The result sees Sturt back up their Minor Premiership after grabbing a league best 25 wins on the season.

Football (the roundball kind)

FFA Cup 2021 South Australia Preliminary Rounds – Round One

The first round of the FFA Cup 2021 Preliminary Rounds kicked off last week and continued across the weekend, with 20 games held across the state.

One highlight was Playford City’s comfortable 6-0 win over Ingle Farm SC at Ramsay Park on Friday night. Playford’s win came off the back of Joshua Farrell’s impressive performance which saw him bag a hat-trick, with his first goal coming in the eighth minute.

Now the first preliminary round is over, teams can focus on the impending National Premier League and State League 1 and 2 seasons, which are set to kick off in less than two weeks.

Sport over the Easter long weekend
