Golfers in the 2014 Australian Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships teed off just after dawn this morning as organisers tried to beat the heat at Grange Golf Club.
Six South Australians survived the two-day 36-hole qualifying rounds to make it through to the Match Play section of the Championships in Adelaide.
With the qualifying score being 3-over in the Men’s event, the four South Australian’s to progress through were Anthony Murdaca and Chris Brown at 3-under and Heath Riches at 2-over.
Justin Crowder who finished even with the card, with rounds of 75, 69 also qualified.
Ryan Evans from Wellinborough GC in the UK is the leading qualifier at 9-under with rounds of 68 and 67.
Lucas Herbert from Commonwealth Golf Club in Victoria and Kazuki Higa from Japan both finished at 6-under and qualify second and third respectively.
American and University of Kentucky sophomore David Snyder fired the round of the day Wednesday with a 6-under par 66 to finish fourth at 4-under par.
The top 64 men started elimination Match Play with the first round starting at 7.00am with a shotgun start.
In the Women’s qualifying, Korean, So-Young Lee is the leading qualifier finishing at 6-under with rounds of 69, 69 (138).
Minjee Lee from Royal Freemantle was next best at 2-under shooting 73,69 (142).
SA’s Jenny Lee at 2-over and Cassidy Evreniadis at 9-over have both progressed to join 30 others in the Match Play.
