Commenting on the story: SA recycling system set for overhaul

The more we can recycle, the better. Great initiative. – Denise Bowden

This is a disastrous idea. For the wine state to be contemplating a deposit on wine bottles is insane. I have never seen a Grange bottle in the litter stream.

It will be a disaster for the many small wine merchants that have developed a niche market for small interstate and imported wine. They will have to unpack every box to apply the 10c deposit sticker.

The added cost per bottle (circa 15 cents) will come straight from the bottom line of retailers. Whether a bottle of wine is $10, $20 or $30 the price will not go to $10.15, $20.15 or $30.15. So logically the cost will be borne  by the retailer.

The reverse vending machines in NSW are a joke: horrendously slow, often don’t read the bottle and they don’t spit the cash, they spit a docket that you can only benefit from by having it deducted from your next purchase at the supermarket. – Peter Hurley

More cash-in points sounds great, reverse vending machines not so.

Currently people store their 10c recyclables until they have enough to make it worthwhile to redeem enough dollars to help pay for the trip. Most people don’t go shopping every day so if you took a lot of items to a reverse vending machine it would be way too time consuming. Not to mention the people behind you waiting to put a few through.

Supermarket space is valuable so machines would need to be outside in the weather as well. I can just see plastic bottles flying everywhere in the wind and not in the machine. Just a few points to ponder. – David Denison

Commenting on the story: ‘Not endorsed’: RAA’s U-turn on road safety board member

The existing RAA Board’s reason for not endorsing one of the sitting members is seriously lacking.

It is not sufficient simply to say that the person doesn’t meet the criteria – they should be explicit about the alleged deficiencies. Otherwise one is left not knowing whether to not the decision reflects some kind of prejudicial one.

It is difficult to see how a former Registrar of Motor Vehicles and a road safety expert does not meet the criteria. – Robert Fletcher

Commenting on the story: Flinders Chase visitor centre to rise from ashes

We visited KI almost immediately after the wild fire and saw evidence of regeneration. We had just received our Tesla but decided to take the petrol-powered Subaru as the reports of recharging infrastructure were poor.

Inspection of recharging infrastructures confirmed such finding. We are now a fully electric vehicle family and until the State Government and local councils upgrade the recharging facilities, people like us with modern EV will hesitate.

The existing EV charging stations were operated by ChargePoint, who had ended business in Australia over 3 years ago. The AC recharging stations are fitted with IEC Type-1 plugs only that are not the current Australian standard, which is IEC Type-2 for AC and CCS2 for DC. Worst of all, the units must be operated with an RFID card, where one is available for the recharger outside the Post Office in Kingscote.

When is the local council and the state government upgrading existing EV recharging infrastructures to promote tourism on KI? – Luther Wong

As someone who attended the performance that night all I can say is a resounding, hear hear! – Patty Stuart-Macadam
